DESCRIPTION:In the 40 years since forming\, Blue Rodeo have sold over 4 million albums\, received dozens of JUNO Award nominations and wins\, played over 2\,000 shows\, been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame\, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame\, been named to the Order of Canada and have been honoured with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. \nThe definition of a rebel is someone who goes against the grain. For close to forty years now\, Blue Rodeo has taken the road less travelled – and succeeded far beyond anyone’s expectations. The band emerged in the early 80’s as a countrified rock band in the era of hair metal and glossy pop. Despite sticking out like a sore thumb (or maybe because of it)\, their single “Try” became omni-present on radio across Canada and set in motion a four decade long career of headlining every club\, theatre and arena in Canada. DESCRIPTION:After more than three decades as the lead singer and guitarist for Barenaked Ladies\, Ed Robertson has a routine when it comes time to start writing songs for a new album. “I tend to get ideas while I’m driving up to my lake house\,” he says. “I record voice memos along the way\, and then I listen back and try to make sense of them and mix and match the various ideas I’ve come up with. I’ve never felt that before.” \nThe results mark a new chapter for a band that’s sold more than 15 million albums\, earned Grammy nominations and won multiple Juno Awards\, and in 2018\, were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In Flight\, BNL’s eighteenth studio album\, retains the dry wit and keen observation we expect from Robertson\, bassist Jim Creeggan\, keyboardist/guitarist Kevin Hearn and drummer Tyler Stewart\, but adds a strong sense of maturing and lessons learned. “I think as I age\, I get less self-conscious\,” says Robertson. “I had a goal to write simpler songs on this record\, to not out-clever myself and be a little more direct\, more emotionally present and honest. Two singles have already been released\, taken from the forthcoming album: ‘One Night/All Night starring Tame Impala’ and ‘Generator’. \nOf the single ‘One Night/All Night starring Tame Impala’\, the band say: “We wanted this track to sound as if a dark/techno iteration of Justice had found a sample of a disco iteration of Kevin Parker. Kevin has a sense of melody that’s fascinating in the sense that he manages to write melodies that feel both simple and natural\, but very peculiar at the same time. This song oscillates between pure electronic music and pure disco but you never really get the two at the same time. This very idea of switching instantly from a genre to another within a song runs through the whole record\, and is maybe showcased the clearest in ‘One Night/All Night’. \nAnd of ‘Generator’\, the band add: “To us\, this one sounds like “Getaway” by the Salsoul Orchestra\, but with gabber and classic 90s hardcore techno sounds. Disco/funk and  electronic music at large have always been core elements of the music we make as Justice. In ‘Hyperdrama’\, we make them coexist\, but not in a peaceful way. DESCRIPTION:Daniel Victor Snaith (born March 29\, 1978) is a Canadian composer\, musician\, and recording artist. He has released 10 studio albums since 2000 and has recorded and performed under the stage names Caribou\, Manitoba\, and Daphni. \nSnaith’s first release was an EP entitled ‘People Eating Fruit’ in 2000 under the artist name Manitoba. This was followed by his debut album ‘Start Breaking My Heart’ in 2001. His second album\, ‘Up In Flames’\, inspired by 1960s psychedelia and 1990s shoegaze was released in 2003. This album was accompanied by a tour where Snaith\, who had previously performed live as a solo electronic act\, performed with a live band. \nIn 2004\, after being threatened with a lawsuit by Richard ‘Handsome Dick’ Manitoba\, Snaith changed his performance name to Caribou. Snaith’s previous full-length albums were then re-released under the new moniker. His first new album to be released under the new name was 2005’s ‘The Milk of Human Kindness’. His albums to this point were released on The Leaf Label. \nIn 2007\, Snaith signed to Merge Records in North and South America and City Slang in the rest of the world and released the album ‘Andorra’. This was followed by ‘Swim’ in 2010\, which saw his sound turned towards the dancefloor. The album ‘Our Love’ followed in 2014. It was Snaith’s most commercially successful album to date – peaking at number 8 on the UK album charts and 46 in the US Top 200 Billboard Album Charts. In February 2020\, Snaith released his most recent Caribou album ‘Suddenly’. \nWhen performing concerts as Caribou\, Snaith plays with a live band consisting of Snaith\, Ryan Smith\, Brad Weber\, and John Schmersal and includes two drum kits on stage alongside bass\, guitar and various electronic instruments. Caribou have toured worldwide since the early 2003 and performed at festivals including Coachella\, Glastonbury\, Primavera Sound\, Field Day\, Bonnaroo\, All Points East\, Reading and Leeds\, Parklife\, Osheaga\, amongst many others. In 2012\, Caribou supported Radiohead globally on their ‘King of Limbs’ tour. \nIn 2011\, looking for an outlet for more dancefloor influenced output\, began releasing music under the name Daphni. He has released 3 studio albums under this alias – ‘Jiaolong’ (2012)\, ‘Joli Mai’ (2017) and ‘Cherry’ (2022) on his own record label\, Jiaolong. When appearing as Daphni\, Snaith performs as a DJ\, having played repeatedly at clubs\, including Panorama Bar\, Printworks\, Fabric\, Plastic People\, Space Ibiza\, Trouw\, Nitsa\, Nowadays\, and festivals\, including Coachella\, Glastonbury\, Dekmantel\, Primavera Sound\, Field Day\, Melt\, Rainbow Disco Club Junction 2\, amongst many others.
