If you are reading this, you are blissfully unaware of what is creeping up behind you. The leaves are falling, everything is pumpkin spice, and ‘Scare Season’ is upon us.

This October, Playland has put a chilling twist on the usual thrills. The haunted houses won’t be open, but the park will be possessed with terrifying décor and a horror-themed outdoor walk-thru experience that pays its respects to your favourite haunts of the past.

Slayland will feature twenty rousing rides, including our most-frightening Atmosfear, Wooden Roller Coaster, and the Beast. Others may enjoy the Scary-Go Round, Murder Hornet Express, and the Skeleton Swinger.

This is the first time in the PNE Halloween event history that guests will be allowed to wear costumes in the park. However, for the safety of all guests and staff, we cannot allow guests to wear costume face coverings including face paint, and eyes must remain visible.

Guests are encouraged to attend the site with their coven, brood, or horde, and to maintain at least 6 feet/2 metres of physical distancing.

Since there will be no haunted houses, this is also the first time that children under 13 will be allowed, based on parental discretion (it is still not recommended for children under the age of eight).

Notice of Restrictions

No backpacks or large bags are allowed. 1 small clutch, purse, or fanny pack is permitted (no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches).
There are no lockers or on-site storage available.
All bags and persons attending PNE events are subject to search.
Playland is a non-smoking park, please adhere to all guidelines inside the park.

Costume Theme Weekends

Each weekend will have a different theme:

  • October 9-11: Superheroes
  • October 16-18: Fantasy
  • October 22-25: Retro
  • October 29-31: Your Choice!

While guests will be allowed to adorn costumes this year, please note that face paint and costume masks are not allowed as COVID-19 masks (mouth & nose coverings) will continue to be required in all queues, and on/in attractions.

Triple Os will be open for burgers, fries and milkshakes too!

We have general guest information on amenities, directions to Playland, conduct and courtesy guidelines to help your visit to Playland go as planned.

Know Before You Go

All guests visiting Playland will need to purchase their tickets in advance online through TicketLeader.ca. Capacities are limited. Select your date and time slot from the calendar. TicketLeader accepts credit and verified debit cards. To connect with a TicketLeader call centre team member to pre-purchase your tickets over the phone, please call 604-252-3700.

Your ticket is valid only for the date and time indicated on it. Before arriving at Playland please ensure you have either printed your ticket or downloaded the “print at home” PDF to your mobile phone. There is no free WIFI available at Playland. Please present the original ticket file, and not a screen shot of it. To help with ticket scanning, please turn the brightness on your phone to maximum, and enlarge the bar code section.

Playland uses cashless procedures on site for retail and food and beverage. We accept credit/debit and recommend that you use your tap enabled cards.

As per Vancouver Coastal Health recommendations, please only travel to the PNE/Playland in small groups/with your family/household unit, and keep within your social bubble.

For the safety of all of our guests and team members, outside food and beverage will not be permitted on site. In an effort to decrease touch points we ask that you do not bring outside food, beverage, bags, back packs and coolers to Playland. There will not be lockers or storage spaces available.

Why is Playland opening during a pandemic?

Determining whether or not to open Playland during these unprecedented times was a difficult task. Like many organizations, we’re continually monitoring the balance between public safety with the desire to recall some of our team and open our park, and we know that this balance needs to be re-evaluated on an ongoing basis. Following discussions and guidance from Vancouver Coastal Health, we determined that our plans related to sanitization and COVID-19 related protocols were sound, and so the decision was made to reopen the park in a limited capacity. We will monitor the re-opening and, again with guidance from Vancouver Coastal Health, make any changes necessary.

Increased Focus on Cleanliness

We have always been proud of our high standards; now more than ever, we will be ensuring that our guests and team members feel safe enjoying their time at Playland. We continue to work with our local health authorities through each step of our opening.  Physical distancing, recommended masks and enhanced sanitizing protocols will be just a few of the new standard operating procedures on site.

Managing Capacity & Distancing

During the limited Playland opening we will be operating at a reduced capacity.  We require guests to purchase their tickets in advance to limit the number of people on the plaza and in the park.

When you arrive you will see distancing markers on entrance, at rides, attractions, food and beverage stands. These remind guests to keep 6 feet/2 metres apart when queuing. We ask your assistance in leaving the appropriate space between your family and others while walking in the park, using restrooms, in lines on rides and in food areas.

We also ask that guests be mindful of pinch points. While there will be clear one way walkways through the park and upon entry and exit, we ask that guests make space for others when entering or exiting new spaces and the park in general.

Masks & Face Coverings

All team members will be wearing masks on site. Masks are mandatory for guests in queue lines, on rides and attractions and recommend while walking through the park.

Reusable 2-ply, polyester/cotton PNE masks with optional filter space (filter not provided) will be offered complimentary, with each paid admission, to guests upon entrance while supplies last. Should you wish to purchase additional PNE branded masks they will be available at the Guest Services booth for $10 including taxes.

Kids 3 and under are free and will not receive a souvenir Playland mask. The BC CDC recommends that all children over the age of 2 wear a face covering or mask. If your child is between the ages of 2-3, please bring a mask or purchase a mask for $10 at guest services.

Masks must be worn on all rides, as 2 metres distancing is not always possible. Team members will remind guests of this requirement from time to time or as needed.

Rides & Attractions

We have changed the configuration of our queue lines to allow for distancing between families. As our overall queue capacity will be reduced, lines for our attractions may appear to be longer than normal.

You will be asked to use alcohol-based sanitizer on your hands as you enter the queue lines and just after you exit the attraction platform or perimeter.

Masks are mandatory on rides.  Please ensure you have a snug fit of your mask around your ears or head.  We are not able to stop the ride nor retrieve any items lost or dropped while on the ride including masks.  Replacement masks will be available for purchasing at the Guest Services booth near the front gates of the park.

Rides will be sanitized pre-opening and periodically through operating times.  Queue railings and gates will be sanitized and wiped down frequently during the day.

Food & Eating Spaces

During the limited Playland opening many of your favourite food and beverage options are available including Fundunkers mini donuts, candy floss, Triple O’s and more.  There are designated entrance, pick up and exit lines to ensure maximum distance and to control flow in these areas.

Playland food locations are using cashless procedures on site.  We accept credit/ debit and recommend that you use your tap enabled cards.

Additional tables have been added to the grassy area north of the Flume ride , towards the front of the park.  These tables have been placed in alignment with physical distancing requirements and we ask that you do not move them closer together.

Weather

To ensure the safety of our guests during inclement weather such as high winds, rain or lightning in the park vicinity, individual rides or the entire park may be closed. Affected rides may be re-opened if deemed safe. Playland does not issue rain cheques or refunds for ride or park closures.

2020 Season Pass Members

2020 season passes have been extended to the 2021 Playland season with a variety of amazing bonuses. In addition to those 2021 bonuses, current pass holders receive two (2) complimentary visits for this year for every season pass previously purchased.

A Safe & Healthy Environment

Please stay home if you are sick and we will do the same! 

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms we’d love for you to stay home and take care of yourself: fever/feeling feverish, cough, sore throat, headache, runny nose, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, loss of taste and/or loss of smell.

Please note the BC CDC advises that older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.  Guests should evaluate their risk in determining whether to attend.  People who show no symptoms can spread COVID-19 if they are infected, any interaction with the general public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19, and we cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed during your visit.    Your cooperation is appreciated during this unprecedented time and we look forward to seeing you soon!

As we continue to collaborate with local health authorities on a safe re-opening of our site, we feel it is important to inform our guests that some of the new protocols are considered a requirement. If not adhered to, we risk site closure. Entry and occupation of Playland are contingent on such requirements. Team members will happily remind guests of such requirements; however, unwillingness to adhere to the requirements may result in a request to leave the park with no refund.

Getting to Slayland

by transit and bicycle:

We encourage you to use alternate transportation. The main entrance to Playland is located a short walking distance from several bus stops and there is a bike rack located outside the gate. For more information about getting to Playland via transit, including fares and schedules, please visit www.translink.bc.ca or call 604-953-3333.

by vehicle:

Parking is available in the PNE’s secure, well-lit lot located at Hastings & Windermere across the street from the Playland main gate. Parking for disabled guests is available on both lots. Directions to Playland at the PNE. Parking for Playland is $13. We accept credit or debit for parking payment. We do not accept cash.

on foot:

As a courtesy to local residents, please enter and exit the site quietly and refrain from leaving litter in the streets.

Lyft is the Official Rideshare partner of Playland with a drop off and pick up location west of the main Playland entrance.
