Employee Testimonials: Hear from Our Team

Christie Kerr— Director, Fair & Festival Operations

“My journey with the PNE started long before I ever worked here. I first came as a young 4-H member, and the Fair was a huge part of my life from the time I was about eight. In my teens, I joined the Youth Advisory Panel, which led to my first summer job at the PNE, even before I had a formal interview. I kept coming back each year through college, and after graduation, I thought my time here was done. But then a seasonal opportunity came up, and I jumped back in.

Since then, I have grown into my current role as Director of Operations. What keeps me here is the opportunity to lead an incredible team and help create events that bring joy and lasting memories to the public. Especially during challenging times, like launching our drive-thru experiences during COVID, I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful our work can be. Seeing the impact we have on people, it’s deeply rewarding, and the gratitude of guests reminded me of the impact we have.

As a leader, one of the things I value most is helping others grow. Building a strong, supported team, and mentoring them as they build their own careers, is something I take real pride in. The PNE’s values; Enthusiasm, Excellence, and Evolution are truly alive in our daily work, and I see our people live them out in inspiring ways.

The PNE has been ahead of the curve when it comes to supporting women in leadership and creating real opportunities for career. It’s more than just a workplace, it’s a place where families grow, and people are supported not just professionally, but personally too. The relationships we build here are truly one of a kind.

If you are considering a career at the PNE, know that it’s more than just a workplace – it’s a community that supports your growth, both personally and professionally. I’ve been lucky to learn from great leaders here, and now I’m proud to pay that forward”

Colin McDonald- People & Culture Specialist

It all began at the age of 15 for Colin McDonald and what started as a fun summer job turned into a career shaped by learning, leadership, and a deep connection to our organization’s purpose.

“That first decade gave me more than just job experience,” he says. “I was balancing high school, summer school, and working at the PNE. I developed so many news skills, including skills in public speaking and teamwork.”

Over time, Colin’s role evolved. As he took on new responsibilities in ticketing services and behind-the-scenes operations, he embraced the opportunity to grow and stepped into a seasonal manager position. The variety,” says Colin. “You’re always learning something new. I’ve worked on events, handled park operations, supported recruitment, it’s never the same day twice. And you are part of something meaningful.

From starting off checking staff IDs, supporting daily operations and leading gate teams as a teen to managing high-pressure events and mentoring new leaders, Colin’s growth has been both personal and professional. “The PNE believed in me, and that belief has helped shape who I am today.”

“If you are considering a career at the PNE, just know it’s a place where you will learn an incredible range of skills. It’s not just about one job—it’s a place where you can explore, grow, and be part of something truly special.”

Even during busy seasons, connection remains a priority. “We meet regularly, support each other, and celebrate together. Volunteering at events, helping out across departments-it all creates a sense of belonging.”

And perhaps the most heartfelt reason to come to work every day?

“I get to help create the same magic I experienced as a kid. That’s what drives me to be part of delivering memorable experiences to the next generation.”

John Rampuri, Event Conversion Foreperson III

John’s journey at the PNE spans more than three decades — from an entry-level role to leading teams as a Foreperson. His story reflects the spirit of growth, dedication, and community that makes the PNE such a special place to work.

“My journey with the PNE began over three decades ago, and it’s been a place where I’ve grown both personally and professionally,” says John. “I started my career in Playland and gradually moved through various departments, eventually taking on leadership roles. Working at the PNE is also a family affair — over the years, 14 members of my family have worked on this historical site.”

My very first role was blowing up balloons in Playland. From there, I moved into Games, becoming a Games Agent, and eventually transitioned into Rides, where I found myself behind the mic as the DJ on the Music Express. That voice is one many guests still recognize!

Gradually, I worked my way up into leadership roles, eventually becoming a Senior Foreperson. One of my most memorable experiences was supporting operations during the 2010 Olympics. That time was unforgettable — especially working backstage during the figure skating events and gold medal finals.

What keeps me here is the sense of community. Many of my closest and oldest friends are people I met here. We started working side by side as kids and grew into adulthood together — those bonds have lasted decades. The PNE truly feels like a second home.

What stands out most to me is the opportunity for development. I’ve been supported through training, mentorship, and the chance to contribute ideas and take initiative in my roles. There’s a real sense of ownership and pride in the work we do — especially during major events, where you can see the direct impact of your efforts. Over the years, I’ve developed a wide range of skills by working across different departments. It’s a place where your voice matters.

To anyone considering working here: this is more than just a first job — it can become a real career. The culture is open, diverse, and constantly evolving. There’s always a new challenge, and that’s what motivates me. Knowing that my work plays a role in bringing unforgettable experiences to life — that’s what keeps me coming back.

Graeme Trask's Journey from Tech I to Leadership

Graeme began his career at PNE in an entry-level Tech I role, and over the years he has taken full advantage of the opportunities available, rising through the ranks thanks to his commitment to learning and development. He credits the apprenticeship program with providing him with the tools and knowledge needed to step into leadership roles.

“I’ve had the opportunity to grow and gain more experience, especially with the introduction of the apprenticeship program,” Graeme recalls. “My time here has been incredibly rewarding, with challenges along the way that keep me organized and focused.”

For Graeme, the variety of machines and systems the PNE requires is one of the aspects that makes the job exciting. “One of the things I enjoy most about working at PNE is the diversity of the machines and systems I work with, everything from hydraulics and pneumatics to the new electric energy systems on our launch coaster,” he says. “I also appreciate the small, close-knit nature of our department, where everyone knows each other, and we all work together as a team.”

Graeme says the most rewarding part of the role is knowing the mechanical work the team does is critical to ensuring a smooth and safe operation.

Looking back on his journey, Graeme encourages anyone considering a career at PNE to dive in with enthusiasm. “Our culture is built on transparency, teamwork, and a genuine passion for what we do,” he says. “We stay connected through communication, especially during busy seasons, and everyone is always willing to help one another.”
